ia, everything i've heard about young korean idols & actors has been really dark. does it get better once they pass 30 or is that sort of insane pressure still there?
The tenacity of kpop fans comes from the extreme parasocial relationships formed with idols. Idols drop so much content that it might actually be intimidating for a newcomer to get into, this is something that American artists simply don’t do. Billie Eilish for example is one of the top artists right now but even I have not seen her stans move like kpop stans, the dedication is simply something that is only formed when you are barraged with content and have the constant sense that these people are being marketed as your close friend/lover.
Kpop communities get intensely vitriolic, even the ones that say they are casual fans will still devolve into childish insults if you say something they don’t like, it’s actually terrifying. Kpop stans will do anything for their idols. I feel like it a popular group instructed fans to do some reprehensible shit, they’d probably do it in a heartbeat. We have cases of stans defending literal rapists and other trash bag humans, it’s disgusting.
Us doesn’t live up to the hype of Get Out, sorry. he had one exceptional movie, that’s more than most writers, he’ll be fine but never measure up.
