IA with you nona. It's really obnoxious. Cis people are running around screaming that they are being misgendered and it's really really dangerous and misguided.
People hate on Selena because of the dumbass BLM comment she made earlier but I think she is just genuinely a really stupid person (not smart in the least: book smart nor common sense smart) and didn't know wtf point she was even trying to make. But people hold her stupidity against her because she's prettier than they are even if she's since redeemed herself
tbh, I didn't think Olivia Rodrigo would happen. Most of her songs are basic as hell even compared to Camila's new song/video. Then again, a lot of people love Taylor's boring love songs and her etsy/instagram aesthetic, so...
Demi and Halsey are feminine boob flashing women tho. It’s not that they’re running away from sexism, it’s that being a white woman in modern society is blasé and slapping on the non-binary gives you an edge in the woke crowd.
No one listens to privileged straight white normie Karens. You have to be bisexual, non-binary or have a mental illness.
I don't think she's that dumb. But she was young and we all make shitty comments when we're young. She's actually been trying the past year or so and I think there's a line and ONTD would lose their mind if they were held to comments they've made through the years.
Olivia's team did a splendid job with marketing and the rollout. And TBH, maybe the music is basic but it's also relatable and I think people forget how much being relatable works in people's favor. Like millenials can relate to that pop punk sound they grew up on and the universal message of heartbreak.
she's been vocal about mental health and black lives matter and even gave her instagram to activists instead of speaking over them. there literally isn't anything she can do to please the masses some people will just hold a grudge against her even if she donated her entire fortunate to a cause
she seemed to have a lot of angst on sour. Just so happens many are feeling angst/anger in the midst of the panini in general (exes aside).
When people “connect” to a song (especially Olivias was so emotional) , they really latch on to it. Like how Adele’s overwrought “hello” was on loop in everyone’s iPods before.
those Alanis-esque breakup bops are powerful as shit. The minute she makes happy songs, the fans will likely check out. Look at Lorde with her Beach Midsommar trippy hippy ditty. Snore.
this! exact same sitch with tswift - she isn't magnificent at anything she does & her music can be hit or miss - but she hones in on universal messages around relationships that everyoneeeee can relate to and apply to their own lives
I think she had several things in her favor: label push, good marketing, and the right look. Not that it’s a dig to her at all, but it all makes a difference in who you hear about and who you might not.
